前言
中国与英国,在地球的版图上相隔万水千山,但版画艺术却打开了一扇特殊的时空之门。此次英国皇家版画协会带来了40幅版画作品进行展览,对我们而言,迎来的不仅仅是作品,也是超越民族和国界的对美的共同追求。 中、英两国都有版画创作传统,英国是木口木刻的发源地,而中国则是木版雕刀印刷术的发源地,也是复制木刻的故乡。如今,版画这个古老的画种焕发出强大的生机,其种类和制作方法都极大的丰富起来,也有越来越多的朋友们喜爱版画,走进美术馆欣赏版画。
艺术是一种意识形态,是一种精神向往和追求,而艺术作品更是艺术家的心血和结晶。英国版画家的作品人物造型活泼而烂漫,色彩理智而细腻,创作内容从现实到幻想,从抽象到具象,从建筑到人物,从自然风景到工业场景,透过这些色彩和肌理,可以领略版画艺术的魅力;透过这些古老或现代的建筑,可以欣赏别样的异域风景,透过这些英雄或平凡的人物,可以体味发掘人性的深度。
十位艺术家的作品,表达着对人文历史和当下社会生活的积极关注与思考,具有鲜明的个人风格、绘画语言和艺术理解。他们在观念、材料和表现形式上进行了新的探索和尝试,可以说,他们的版画创作更自由、更当代、更艺术。
金陵美术馆致力于全面深入的与国内外艺术家建立联系,希望通过此次展览建立起国际化的交流与展示平台,为艺术家提供抒发情感,展示作品,切磋技法的舞台,也希望它能为观众带来更多的启发与思考。

艺术家:David Ferry (大卫·费瑞 现任皇家版画家协会主席)
大卫·费瑞就读于布莱克普大学高等教育进修学院,坎伯韦尔工艺美术学院。他是画家,也是版画家中的佼佼者。他是威尔士卡迪夫艺术与设计学院印刷和书籍艺术学科的荣誉教授,南安普顿索伦特大学的荣誉博士。大卫为英国悉尼诺兰德信托基金会的外展服务和教育工作做出了很多贡献。他目前是切尔西艺术俱乐部主席,皇家版画家协会主席。
Artist:David Ferry PRE
David Ferry studied at Blackpool College of Higher and Further Education,
and at Camberwell School of Art and Crafts.
He became a painter and is now a leading printmaker.
David Ferry is Emeritus Professor of Printmaking and Book Arts at the Cardiff School of Art and Design,
Wales, and Hon Doctor of Arts at the Southampton Solent University.
David contributes to the outreach and educational work of the Sidney Noland Trust UK.
He currently is Chairman of the Chelsea Arts Club, and President of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. Ferry’s work is in many international and museum collections.

Mychael Barratt was born in Toronto, Canada, however considers himself to be a Londoner since arriving for what was supposed to be a two-week stay thirty years ago. He is a narrative artist whose work is steeped in imagery relating to art history, literature, theatre and everything else that overfills his bookshelves.

凯瑟琳是英国版画家,画家。她的作品结合了传统版画和浮雕版画,直接而有画感,每一件作品都经过漫长的时间逐渐形成的。她是惠特郡拉布利绘画中心最新入驻的艺术家之一,并获得了许多奖项,包括在2014年皇家学院夏季展览会上的“伦敦原版印刷奖”。
Artist: KatherineJones RE
Katherine Jones is a British printmaker and painter.
Her approach to the work,
which combines traditional forms of intaglio and relief print, is direct and painterly and each piece is gradually worked to its conclusion over a lengthy period.
She is the most recent artist in residence at Rabley Drawing Centre, Whiltshire and is the recipient of numerous awards,
including the London Original Print Fair Prize at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2014.

斯蒂芬·劳勒是一名画家、版画家,现在都柏林工作生活。他于2000-2005担任都柏林版画工作室主席。2016年在北京创立了中央美术学院国际学术版画联盟,在同年成为皇家版画家协会会员。他一直研究15世纪到18世纪的欧洲绘画,并从中精心挑选出适合绘画的元素,用针、酸和刷子做松散的标记。在风景和人类的形式、抽象和定形之间,他的版画想从人们共同的记忆中探索着某种东西,这些东西可以是熟悉的或模糊的,以前幻影残余的影像。我把它们视为朦胧潜意识的小窗口。
Artist: StephenLawlor RE
Stephen Lawlor is a painter & printmaker working and living in Dublin. He lectured at IADT, in printmaking and drawing 1991-97 and was chairman of Graphic Studio Dublin Print Workshop 200005.
He is a founder member of the International Academic Printmaking Alliance at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 2016.
Stephen became an associate member of RE in 2016 and was elected a member of Aosdána in 2018.
My work is an ongoing engagement with European painting from 1400 to 1800.
I appropriate elements from carefully selected paintings and juxtapose them through loose mark making with needle, acid and brush.
Between landscape and the human form, abstraction and figuration my prints explore something in our collective memory of images that can be familiar or obscure, ghost-remnants of icons that stretch backward in time. I see them as small windows onto a hazy subconscious.

Artist: Blaze Cyan ARE
Blaze was born in Wiltshire and now lives and works in London.
She graduated from the City & Guilds of London Art School in 2014 with an M.A. in Fine Art after a previous career in the fashion industry.
And was elected as an associate member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (R.E.) in 2017. Blaze has shown work with many of the leading art and printmaking societies.
In 2015 she joined ‘The Arborealists’ an international group of artists specializing in the representation of trees.
Working within the mediums of drawing, etching, woodcut and wood engraving, her primary subject area is landscape.
Having a particular fascination with ancient trees, the portrayal of time and the beautiful grotesque.
The work begins as an exploration, a love of being present in the landscape.
Walking to gather sensory information, collecting interesting pieces of twisted wood and stones. Inspiration comes from forests, woodland and individual ancient trees, their anthropomorphic qualities, and the feeling of empathy for them, as they transcend human timescales and ideas of mortality. The use of monochrome creates an unnatural perfection, a visual incompleteness, transforming that which could be distorted and strange to appear fascinating.

艺术家:Veta Gorner (维塔·格尔纳 皇家版画家协会会员)
维塔·格尔纳在俄罗斯圣彼得堡州立艺术与工业学院获得了室内设计和建筑学学位,在移居英国学习版画并建立自己的版画工作室之前,她曾做过平面和广告设计师。维塔是一个追求完美的艺术家,她尝试不同的材料和技术,以找到制作版画的新方法。她的作品融合了设计、工程、雕塑、建筑、绘画、绘画、逻辑和直觉。
“我最近的作品是对生活的庆祝,是对生活的高低起伏及高处和低处之间紧张关系的反思。我的作品不仅与身体结构有关,还与思想和情感有关。作品反映了居住环境是如何塑造和改变我们的。作品中可以看出生命是动态的”。
Artist: Veta Gorner RE
Veta Gorner RE gained a degree in Interior Design and Architecture from the St. Petersburg State Artistic and Industrial Academy,
Russia and worked as a graphic and advertising designer before moving to the UK where she studied printmaking and set up her own printmaking studio.
Veta is a consummate draughtsman and she is constantly experimenting with materials and techniques in order to find new ways of print making.
Her work is a fusion of design, engineering, sculpture, architecture, drawing, painting, logic and intuition.
“My recent work is a celebration of life and a reflection upon its highs and lows and tensions in between.
It is concerned not only with physical structure but also with the thought and emotion that move us into action.
It is also about how the environments we inhabit shape and change us.
It is about how a collision of space and form create new animate forms and enhance the borderline energies. It is about life, which is movement.”

艺术家:Michelle Griffiths(米歇尔·格里菲斯 皇家版画家协会会员)
米歇尔·格里菲斯在布莱顿学习美术并获得了绘画学学士学位,版画学硕士学位。她在英国各地举办了共24场个人展,包括伯恩茅斯大学(2009)、温彻斯特大学(2002)、帕兰特馆、奇切斯特(2000)和南安普顿城市美术馆(1991)。她的作品参加了世界各地的展览,近年来,也出现在美国、加拿大、英国等地举办的双年展上。她的版画被许多公共和私人收藏机构收藏,包括英国艺术委员会、阿什莫拉博物馆、维多利亚和阿尔伯特博物馆。她是皇家画家画家协会的会员。“我的绘画和版画是由抽象的意象组成的,但是标记的形式的发展,是人类的性格和相互作用的类比。简而言之,看画的人会很有启发性、感到有趣,甚至会震惊或讨厌,这都取决于他们在做什么;但是无论他们在做什么,看到我的作品往往都会揭示出人类状况中的某些东西。而这正是我感兴趣的,也是我的作品中想传达的。”
Artist: Michelle Griffiths VPRE
Michelle Griffiths studied Fine Art at Brighton where she completed her degree in painting followed by a postgraduate year in printmaking.
She has exhibited widely with 24 solo exhibitions throughout the UK including Bournemouth University (2009),
the University of Winchester (2002), Pallant House, Chichester (2000) and Southampton City Art Gallery (1991).
Her work has been included in mixed and group exhibitions throughout the world.
In recent years, she has had work shown in biennales in the USA, Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria, Canada and the UK.
Her work is in numerous public and private collections including the Arts Council England,
The Ashmolean Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum. She is a fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers.
The French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu used the term ‘Habitus’ to describe a system of dispositions; schemes of perception,
thought and actions, tastes and preferences which define the individual.
It is the observation of such characteristics and the way in which we as individuals relate to each other and to the world around us that informs my work.
The content of my paintings, drawings and prints is generated as abstract imagery, but the forms and language of mark-making that develop are intended to be analogies for human dispositions and interaction. In short, people-watching can be illuminating and fun, or even shocking or nasty,
depending on what they are doing; but whatever they are doing tends to reveal something of the human condition and it is that that interests me and informs my work.
