我们所在的时空，生存之境不断变化，与我们的作为因果相关。大自然或许迫于我们的重重施压，不得不演化出前所未有的混合地形。我们常看到那些消失和亟待消失之物被一一罗列，但那些真正被取代的东西，又该怎样理解？一场全球性的、跨物种的变迁正在进行，我们身处其中，也在通过艺术的形式进行表达。面对生态环境的演变，那些最具生存优势者，必将是能够最快作出反应者，反之亦然。

“生境裂罅”主要展出了来自美国纽约阿尔弗雷德大学电子艺术研究所（IEA）的成员和常驻艺术家的一系列版画与影像作品。这些作品自如地穿梭于数字化和多媒体媒介中，艺术家捕捉并创作出以纸为媒介的图像作品。多数的版画作品输出于宣纸上。艺术家们将最新的数字科技与中国传统手工宣纸相结合，将精细的数字印刷细节展现于肌理丰富的手工宣纸上，从而创造出一种非传统的混合形式，效果非凡，辨识度极高。这跨时空的媒介组合使科技变得更具诗意，同时赋予了它更丰富的视觉维度。艺术家们为概念空间画上了最浓墨重彩的一笔，他们丰富的图像将记述这出人意表的视觉语言，并逐渐灌输予我们新的感知方式。

We live in a time and space where our environments and habitats are rapidly changing through the consequence of our actions. Perhaps nature’s response to our exertion and stress on her is to create new hybrid terrains in this process of forced evolution. We often see it by tabulating what is lost or by what is disappearing but how do we understand what is actually being replaced. Global migrations are taking place across species, impacting humanity and is expressed culturally in our arts. What moves slowly is in peril and what can maneuver more nimbly has the advantage of surviving and possibly thriving.

Fractured Habitats features print media and time media artworks from selected members and resident artists of the Institute for Electronic Arts (IEA) which is located in Western New York at Alfred University. The artworks move freely through the digital space of time media and the capture of images created for paper. The majority of the print media works are printed on Xuan type papers through a myriad of processes. They combine new technologies with age old handmade papers that have existed for millennium in China. The prints create hybrid forms that are unconventional but produce exceptional discernable results with rich detail on their subtle textured surfaces. The time media works activated technologies with fertile poetics and complex visual amplitude. They explore vivid palettes of atypical color within complex conceptual spaces. Their rich imagery chronicles a provocative unexpected visual language that instill new ways of experience.

About Artists：

皮尔 · 博德 Peer Bode
皮尔·博德是一位新媒体艺术家，作品拥有国际展览声誉。他是阿尔弗雷德大学艺术与设计学院电子艺术研究所 (NYSCC) 的教授、联合创始人及联席主任。作为新媒体艺术从业者和教育工作者，博德运用传统和新兴的新媒体媒介进行回顾性研究，并在研究中探索和推动他们历史、技术以及符号语言的发展。

Peer Bode is an internationally exhibiting new media artist. He is Professor of Video Arts, co-founder and co-director of the Institute for Electronic Arts (IEA), School of Art and Design, NYSCC at Alfred University. As a new media arts practitioner and educator Bode harnesses historical and emerging new media technologies in a reflexive investigation that explores and pushes their historical, technical, and semiotic conditions.

罗伯特 · 布瑞克 Robert Brinker
罗伯特·布瑞克综合媒体艺术家，他的作品主要是绘画和剪纸拼贴画。布瑞克的作品曾在国内和国际上许多机构中展出，包括丹佛当代艺术博物馆、纽约瑙曼弗朗西斯米美术馆、纽约P.S.1当代艺术中心、中国国家艺术博物馆。他最近在迈克尔·沃伦当代画廊的个展《逐龙》被Art ltd.杂志评选为2016丹佛十大展览之一。

Robert Brinker is a mixed media artist whose primary focus is painting and cut paper collage. He has exhibited nationally and internationally at institutions including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver; Francis M. Naumann Fine Art, New York City; P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, New York; and the National Art Museum of China, Beijing. His recent solo exhibition, Chasing Dragons, at Michael Warren Contemporary was selected by the publication art ltd. as one of the top ten exhibits in Denver for 2016.

陈小文 Xiaowen Chen
艺术家陈小文也是教育家、策展人，是美国阿尔弗莱德大学美术与设计学院终身教授，中央美术学院特聘教授、国家“千人计划”国际特聘专家。曾任美国康乃尔大学建筑、美术、城市规划学院教授和美国罗特岛设计学院客座教授。从事绘画、视频和视频装置艺术、互动媒体艺术、艺术与科学的创作与教学。

Xiaowen Chen is an artist, educator, and curator. He is a tenured professor of School of Artand Design, Alfred University, Distinguished Professor of China Central Academy of Fine Arts, special expert of the recruitment program of Global Experts in China. He used to be a professor at Cornell AAP Architecture Art Planning, as well as a visiting professor at Rhode Island School of Design. He is engaged in artistic creation and education of painting, video installation, interactive media art, art and technology.

陈子豪 Zihao Chen
陈子豪1991年生于中国福建，毕业于中央美院附中，在阿尔佛雷德大学获得艺术学士学位，研究生就读罗德岛设计学院。曾获得斯普林菲尔德艺术中心、纽约电子艺术研究院、罗斯维尔艺术中心奖项和支持。

Zihao Chen was born in 1991 in Fujian, China, Chen graduated from Fine Arts School Affiliated to China Central Academy , received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Alfred University and studied at the Rhode Island School of Design. He has received awards and support from the Springfield Arts Center, the Institute for Electronic Arts at Alfred University and the Roswell Arts Center.

威廉 · 孔蒂诺 William Contino

William Contino was born in Los Angeles California and has lived and worked in New York, and London. William has been a Professor of Print Media at The School of Art and Design at Alfred University, working in both The Graduate Electronic Integrated Arts program and the Division of Expanded Media since 2003. He has exhibited work in galleries and museums both nationally and internationall, and his work is in collections both public and private. Most recently included in exhibitions in Beijing, China and in Graz, Austria and Toronto, Canada. He was the recipient of an illustration award in Print Magazine and was the featured artist in the arts and literary publication, Vox magazine.

迈尔斯 · 卡尔弗特 Myles Calvert

Myles Calvert was born in Collingwood, Ontario (Canada). He attended the University of Guelph with a focus in printmaking and art history, before travelling to London, UK where he completed his MA in Printmaking at Camberwell College of Art (University for the Arts, London). Major bodies of work included mass installations of screen printed toast and the idolization of popular British celebrity culture. Myles is currently a Visiting Professor in Expanded Print Media at Alfred University, New York State College of Ceramics, and a Sessional Instructor at OCADU (Ontario College of Arts and Design University) in Toronto.

Monica Duncan 莫妮卡 · 邓肯

Monica Duncan is a video and performance artist. Her time-based work investigates the nature of visual perception and audience-performer dynamics through camouflage, stillness and collective image-making. Duncan’s video and performance work has been exhibited at Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, Hebbel am Ufer HAU1, Frankfurt Lab, La Casa Encendida, ZKM, LACMA, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, amongst others. She has been a visiting artist at the Atlanta College of Art, Georgia State University, Hunter College, Signal Culture, Experimental Television Center, Scena Robocza and Institute for Electronic Arts.

Gary Hill (born 1951) is an American artist who lives and works in Seattle, Washington. Often viewed as one of the foundational artists in video art, based on the single-channel work and video- and sound-based installations of the 1970s and 1980s, he in fact began working in metal sculpture in the late 1960s. Today he is best known for internationally exhibited installations and performance art, concerned as much with innovative language as with technology, and for continuing work in a broad range of media.

帕梅拉 · 约瑟夫 Pamela Joseph

Pamela Joseph is a multi-media artist who has exhibited nationally and internationally, in locations such as Paris, Barcelona, and Beijing. Her work has been described as "well-executed, powerful and edgy" by the Colorado Council on the Arts, who awarded her a Visual Arts Fellowship in 2001. Joseph was subsequently selected as a Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome 2003 and 2004.

梁奥迪 Aodi Liang
梁奥迪于2016年获美国纽约阿尔弗雷德大学电子综合艺术方向的艺术硕士学位，现于阿尔弗莱德电子艺术研究所任全职研究专家。他的多媒体作品包括影像、新媒体装置、艺术书籍装帧，数字及传统版画。他近期作品“Wiener World”是转印在红星宣纸上的收藏级数字版画，入选第二届国际学院版画联盟邀请展，在景德镇陶溪川美术馆展出。他的激光雕刻系列版画——“盒子”在第一届故宫太庙国际版画邀请展中展出。他参加的展览还包括尔弗莱德大学校友展、2016年清华大学师生版画联展。

Aodi Liang got his MFA degree in 2016 in EIA program, School of Art and Design, Alfred University, New York. Now he works as a full-time research specialist in IEA at Alfred University. His multimedia works includes videos, video installations, projection mapping, artist books design and binding, digital/traditional printmaking. His newest archival print on Redstar Xuan Paper “Wiener World” entered the 2nd International Printmaking Alliance Invitational Exhibition in Jingdezhen, China. A series of his digital prints with laser engraving “Boxes” were accepted and shown in the 1st International Printmaking Alliance Invitational Exhibition in Forbidden City, China. He also participated in Alfred Alumni Show in Portland, OR, and the Student and Faculty Print Show in Tsinghua University in Beijing China in 2016.

芭芭拉 · 麦迪森 Barbara Madsen

Barbara Madsen is an artist and Associate Professor at Mason Gross School of the Arts. Madsen is known for her work in photography, print, sculpture, and installation. Her vast collections of industrial matter -- spark plugs, machine parts, welding masks, light switches, rubber, plastic, prosthetics, artificial eyes, and much more – serve as the stimulus for the work. Her art employs the tropes of modernism, popular culture and objects that are consumed and discarded.

Alison Nguyen 艾莉森 · 阮

Alison Nguyen is a New York-based artist working in video and installation. She received her B.A from Brown University, Providence, RI. Nguyen’s work has been screened at Ann Arbor Film Festival, Crossroads presented by SF MoMA/SF Cinemateque, True/False Film Festival, San Diego Underground Film Festival, Unseen Film Festival, Microscope Gallery, Tai Kwun Contemporary, Leeds International Film Festival, L’Alternativa, Marfa Film Festival, San Francisco Art Book Fair at Minnesota Street Projects, Traverse Vidéo, Palace Film Festival, Outpost Artists, and Zumzeig Cine.

蕾贝卡 · 帕洛夫 Rebekkah Palov

Rebekkah Palov’s art practice is in music and video. Her artwork has been exhibited internationally, at numerous international films festivals and sound art exhibitions, including Museum of Arts and Design, NYC, Anthology Film Archives, NYC, Festival IMAGES CONTRE NATURE Marseille France. Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago, IL. Oblo Film Festival Lausanne Switzerland and SoundFjord Gallery London UK. Palov also is the Research Administrative Specialist for the Institute for Electronic Arts (IEA), Alfred, NY, where she works with artists in residence and runs the IEA time-based studios.

马秋莎 Ma Qiusha

Ma Qiusha was born in 1982, graduated from China Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2005, graduated from Alfred University in 2008 with a master''''s degree in Electronic Intergrated Art, and now lives and works in Beijing. Her work has appeared at the Tate Modern in the United Kingdom, the Groningen Museum in the Netherlands, the Borusan Contemporary in Turkey, the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf in Germany.

Eric Souther is a video and new media artist who draws from a multiplicity of disciplines, including anthropology, linguistics, religion and critical theory. His work takes many pathways, which includes single channel video, interactive installation, projection mapping, and audiovisual performance.His work has been featured nationally and internationally at venues such as the Museum of Art and Design, NYC, Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse, NY and the Museum of Art, Zhangzhou, China. His work has been screened in The Athens Digital Arts Festival, Athens, Greece, Cronosfera Festival, Alessandria, Italy, the Galerija 12 New Media Hub, Belgrade, Serbia, and the Simultan Festival, Timisoara, Romania.

安娜 · 西梅 Anna Scime

Anna Scime has screened, performed and exhibited work at institutions. Her documentary work has been broadcast nationally and published on Free Speech TV, PhillyCAM and Artgrease. She has received awards for her work including ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes and New York State Council of the Arts (NYSCA), The Center for the Moving Image, The Liberace Foundation, The Mark Diamond Research Fund, and The Robert and Carol Morris Fund for Artistic Expression and Performing Arts.

Joseph Scheer was born in Heidelberg Germany, 1958. He is a Fulbright Scholar, Professor of Print Media, Co-Director/Founder of the Institute for Electronic Arts at the School of Art and Design, Alfred University, New York, and the Vice President of IAPA (International Academic Printmaking Alliance). His current works, which span print media, video, and web based projects, use technology to re-examine nature through interpretive collecting and visual recording. His work is in numerous international collections. This past summer a large selection of his work were featured in: China''''s First Printmaking Festival and Exhibition, Guanlan Museum of Printmaking, Guanlan, China and the POP Gallery, Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia. Other recent exhibitions have taken place at The Yantai Museum of Art, Yantai, China the National Museum of China, Beijing, and T+H gallery Boston, MA. A recent show that traveled to four major museums in Sweden was comprised of 100 large format prints.

米歇尔 · 珊妮萨尔 Michèle Sennesael

Kathryn Vajda was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She received her BFA in Printmaking from the Cleveland Institute of Art and her MFA in Printmaking from Indiana University in Bloomington. She is currently is an Assistant Professor of Art in the School of Art and Design at Alfred University.The Snow City and Ice prints have been exhibited at “Indigo Celebrates 10 Years”, Indigo Art, Buffalo, NY,(2018), It was part of the 6th Guanlan International Print Biennial, China 2017 and the Alfred Alumni and Faculty at the Southern Graphics Conference in Portland, Oregon. "Configuration recent work by Kathryn Vajda and Bryan Hopkins" at INDIGO art in Buffalo, NY (2016).

珊姆 · 斯隆 Sam Sloan

Samantha Sloan Wiechert is an experimental/expanded media artist currently living and working in Western New York. Her work strives to convey the underlying themes of the struggle of human condition by creating highly manipulated visuals and sounds. Dark subjects that linger in the mind become bright and colorful, abstracted to the point of confusion, giving the viewer the opportunity to shape their own reactions based on their personal experiences. She believes that all humans face difficulties that go unexplored willingly or not, and attempts to put on display those feelings with the exploration of light, color, movement, and sound.
