Introduction to International Academic Printmaking Alliance(IAPA)

In October 2016, the International Academic Printmaking Alliance (IAPA) initiated by Central Academy of Fine Arts was established in Beijing. It is a platform for the development of printmaking around the world and the exchange of ideas with great significance to promoting the understanding and integration of the studies on printmaking worldwide. It is also professional platform for knowledge sharing, mutual support and academic exchange for the printmaking industry. Prof. Wang Huaxiang, the first Chairman of IAPA, is a world-renowned artist, Vice Dean of the School of Modelling, Head of the Department of Printmaking and Doctor Supervisor in Central Academy of Fine Arts. Members of IAPA include printmaking leaders and academic elites around the world. They make joint efforts to usher in a brighter future for printmaking, an art form with international charm.

“The First IAPA Invitational Exhibition” held in the Temple of Heaven in Beijing was a great success. More than 700 prints from artists of 28 countries were exhibited in the former imperial temple, showing the national power and cultural confidence of China. The Exhibition is unique even in the world printmaking history.

In the past 18 months since its establishment, IAPA also held “IAPA Invitational Exhibition Tour” in Jinling Art Museum in Nanjing and Museum of Chinese Profiles in Xiamen and “International Wood Engraving Prints and Literature Exhibition” in the Art Museum of Central Academy of Fine Arts. These activities all show the value and academic mission of IAPA.
In August 2018, IAPA will hold “The Second IAPA Grand Exhibition” in Taoxichuan Art Museum. The event aims at introducing forward-looking and constructive print works in theory and practice and the latest research results based on national culture, history and literature from IAPA member countries and academies.

Besides, IAPA also established its own website and WeChat platform. The official website has a daily visit of 3000 to 5000 with the peak reaching 30,000, making it the largest database on printing art. The WeChat platform has attracted more than 6000 users, regularly and constantly promoting printmaking around the world.

Introduction to International Academic Printmaking Alliance (IAPA)
Established in 2016 under the initiative of Professor. Wang Huaxiang, Vice Dean
of the School of Modeling and Director of the Printmaking Department, China Central
Academy of Fine Arts, International Academic Printmaking Alliance (IAPA) is a high-level international academic organization for printmaking and education. With the
mission of building a global academic platform for the development of printmaking
around the world, IAPA is committed to serving all artists and organizations engaged in
printmaking and education. The Committee of the Alliance is composed of members
from seven countries, including Italy, Argentina, Belgium, South Africa, Slovenia,
Nicaragua and Poland. The Alliance has 29 member states including China, the United
States, Italy and Australia. Up to now, several events have been held by IAPA, including
the First Grand Exhibition of IAPA in the Imperial Ancestral Temple in Beijing, a building with a history of more than 600 years. In 2017, the platform also held
International Wood Engraving Work and Literature Exhibition, Seminar and Workshop.
